How much does a inground swimming pool cost?

How much do inground swimming pools cost?

This is one of the most popular questions that we seem to receive and it is one of the hardest to answer.

Cost of swimming pools vary with the materials that you choose to build it with.  For this reason I am going to break it down into three categories: Vinyl Liner , Fiberglass, and Concrete/Gunite pools.

Vinyl Liner inground pools

Vinyl Liner inground pools have the least amount of upfront cost due to the inexpensive materials that are used to construct the pool.  These pools have either metal or polymer sides with a vinyl material stretched across.

For a basic medium sized pool one can expect to spend $20,000-$30,000.

Fiberglass inground pools

Fiberglass inground pools cost more than vinyl liner pools because of the higher cost for the fiberglass shell and shipping cost compared to a vinyl liner pool kit.  One can buy just the shell for $12,000-$25,000 depending on the size.

To have a pool contractor install the pool with decking one can be looking at $35,000-$40,000.

Concrete/Gunite inground pools

Usually Concrete inground pools will have the highest initial startup cost due to the high quality of materials used and the labor intensive construction period.  Cost will vary depending on the size of the pool, the material used for the pool's surface (i.e. white plaster, quartz, glass or shell pebble, etc), lighting and water features.  These pools are the most customizable of the three making a cost estimate even harder.
